Brentwood Youth Rugby Camp

The Brentwood Area High School Rugby Clubs hosted the first-ever Youth Rugby Camp in Middle Tennessee at the Brentwood YMCA on Concord Road from June 12th - 15th. Attendance was greater than expected with over 50 kids, ages 7 to 14, participating in this one-week event. Everyone, coaches and campers alike, had a ball!

Many of the coaches involved were comprised of the Nashville Men's Team players and Old Boys. Also, the Ravenwood High School Girl's team, both Brentwood High School boy's team (Brumbies) and the Ravenwood High School boy's team (Raptors) participated. The campers truly enjoyed having these high school players helping guide them through the beginning phases of rugby.

The sessions were built around the fundamentals. Each session started with passing and catching of the ball, a warm up with stretching, and then a new skill was introduced. As each night progressed, the sessions moved to topics like tackling, scrummaging, rucking, mauling, kicking, going to ground, and just playing the game (touch rugby). It was truly amazing to see how quickly these youngsters caught on!

The final night was topped off with putting it all together. There were "mini-scrummages", "mini-lineouts", and "minis" running all over the place. At the conclusion of the final camp night, we had a wonderful meal provided by Steak-Out of Cool Springs. Thanks again to Don Hartley and Steak-Out for their continued support!

We look forward to the feedback from parents and kids as we build towards a youth league for the Brentwood area.

If you have any comments or suggestions, please do not hesitate to contact us. We want to continue to bring this great sport to the young athletes of Middle Tennessee.
